As part of the program of His Eminence Khamtrul Rinpoche in Malaysia, we had planned for a life release activity & Shabten for His Holiness.

First of all, thanks to Drukpa Butterworth members who helped to arrange for the purchase and transportation of the fish and prawns for release in Sg. Udang. Again, we have checked and ensured that the place for release is ecologically compatible to them so as not to threaten their survival. Approximately 500,000 small prawns and 136,000 small fish (which were reared for consumption) were purchased for release.

We started off the journey from Penang Centre after the Chenrezig Inititation by Khamtrul Rinpoche. Upon reaching the pier, members started to unload the packets of tiny prawns (packed in oxygen filled bag) from the trucks and transfer them to the fishing boats. Due to the large numbers of participants, we took 4 separate boats to go out to the sea. As soon as the boat started sailing, Khamtrul Rinpoche and the monks started to recite the prays. After sailing about 10 minutes, we stopped at a point which is not too far from the shore as these prawns were fairly small and hence would only be suitable at sea level of about 10 feet.

We then started to un-tie the bags and let Khamtrul Rinpoche blessed the prawns by sprinkling into each bag some saffron water infused with holy pills. Once blessed, members then proceeded to release the bags of prawns to the sea, and also ensuring that not a single prawn was trapped inside the bag.

Upon completion of the release of the prawns, we went back to the pier to release the small fish. According to the fisherman, the fish should be released at the pier as they were too small to be released far from shore. Again we repeated the process of reciting the prays, blessing the fish with saffron water and finally releasing them at the pier.

As usual, before parting, we took a group photo. The presence of Khamtrul Rinpoche has drawn crowds, and some villagers also took the opportunity to request for His blessing which Khamtrul Rinpoche, with his true compassionate nature, happily obliged.

It was indeed a very smooth and joyful process, we were indeed fortunate to have the presence of H.E Khamtrul Rinpoche and the monks to bless this life release activity dedicated the His Holiness Long Life.
