Past Events at Drukpa Penang

The Drukpa Lineage, the spiritual tradition which Drukpa Penang (Druk Tharpa Choling) is affiliated with, is in its second year of celebrating 800th anniversary. We are honored to be given this opportunity to co-organize the celebration in Penang, this coming December, jointly with Drukpa Dharmashri Buddhist Center, which is also following the spiritual path of the Drukpa Lineage.

His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa, together with Their Eminences the Second Thuksey Rinpoche and the Ninth Khamtrul Rinpoche Jigme Pema Nyinjadh, were accompanied by His Holiness's parents, H.E. Zhichen Bairo Rinpoche and Mayumla, and ten monks to join us all in this celebration.

Their Eminences Thuksey Rinpoche and Khamtrul Rinpoche's First Visit to Malaysia

As this is the first visit of Their Eminences Thuksey Rinpoche and Khamtrul Rinpoche, it surely marks an important history of the Drukpa Lineage in Malaysia. It is the first time that His Holiness has taken both of his closest spiritual sons together with him at the same time, to Asia. After Malaysia, both Rinpoches will continue to visit Hanoi, Vietnam with their beloved spiritual father. Vietnam will too welcome the head of the Drukpa Lineage and two of the most important lineage holders with 800th anniversary celebration.

As the younger generation today becomes more intoxicated by the illusive nature of the world, there is an urgent need for ancient spiritual traditions such as Buddhism to be able to communicate with youth. The presence of young Rinpoches such as H.E. the Second Thuksey Rinpcohe and H.E. the Ninth Khamtrul Rinpoche Jigmed Pema Nyinjadh, provides a living example and model to those lost beings in the fast-moving cyber world.

An Occasion that brought everyone together

Programs on 1st and 2nd December comprised "Sengey Tsewa" teaching and practice, celebration of 800th anniversary of the Drukpa Lineage and the official launching of "Live to Love" initiatives. About 500 people attended. It was also surprising to see many new faces who came for the teaching and practice.

The warmth of everyone getting together, forming a close network of Drukpa Sangha in Malaysia, was touching the hearts of many who came to join us for the events. We hope this closeness will nurture a better cooperation for next year's programs and that we will be able to fulfill His Holiness's wish of our future progress and development.

Sengey Tsewa Chöd Practice

Dakini Machig Labdron

His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa says:

Sengey Tsewa or The Revelry with the Lion is a particular practice of Prajna Paramita, the Perfection of Great Wisdom. Dakini Machig Labdron offered the teaching of Sengey Tsewa to the Ominiscient One - Kunkhyen Pema Karpo (the Fourth Gyalwang Drukpa 1527-1592) - through his guru, Ava Dhutipa. Ever since then, it has been the main practice of many yogis of Tibetan Buddhism.

The benefit of Sengey Tsewa practice can be categorized into two parts:

  1. Through the practice of non-attachment (Shunyata) towards one's own body, one will be able to free oneself from sufferings such as diseases and unwanted incidences, and accumulate merits to eventually attain the form of Buddha (Rupakaya).
  2. Through the practice of non-attachment (Shunyata) towards one's own conceptual thoughts, one will be liberated from the mental distractions and eventually attain the full realization (Dharmakaya) of complete omniscience (Wisdom of Buddha).
