Drukpa Penang is
located right in the heart of George Town, in close
proximity to the ferry terminal, and it is within
walking distance from various bus terminal, banks, post
office, money changers, restaurants, shopping centers
and many food stalls.
There are plenty of hotel accommodations around that
area, among them are the Cititel Hotel, Bayview Hotel
Eastern & Oriental Hotel. Apart from these, budget
accommodation like motels and guesthouses are widely
available around the neighbourhood.
The island of Penang is fondly known by the locals as
the Pearl of the Orient. It lies off the northwestern
coast of Peninsular Malaysia, covering an area of 285 sq
km and a narrow strip of approximately 760 sq km on the
mainland known as Seberang Perai (Province Wellesley),
which is separated by a channel 3 km wide at the closest
point. They are linked by the Penang Bridge and a
cross-channel ferry service.
On 8 July 2008, George Town together with Melaka was
officially inscribed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage
Listing as the historical cities of the Straits of
Melaka.
